Young Investigator Award 2019
22 Mawrth 2019
Congratulations to Dr Daniel Morse, Research Associate in the School of Biosciences on being successful in achieving the Young Investigator Award 2019. Daniel's research is in the area of oral microbiology.
Daniel’s work on the contribution of oral bacteria towards virulence of C. albicans in biofilms has resulted in a number of publications, a range of national and international awards and recognition at conferences throughout his PhD. Such Awards include the prestigious Senior Colgate Prize (awarded by the British Society of Oral and Dental Research) and subsequently being nominated to represent the British Division at the International Association of Dental Research conference in London. Furthermore a range of poster and oral presentation awards in the UK and abroad including being highly commended for his oral presentation on tissue engineering models of oral mucosa for biofilm infections at the CITER Annual Scientific meeting (Bristol, 2015).
Since completing his PhD Daniel has secured a Wellcome Trust ISSF consolidator grant. This grant will allow Daniel to continue this work and to begin to underpin the mechanisms involved in virulence factor modulation, and a public engagement proof of concept grant to develop hands-on activities to promote microbiology to school children and the general public, with which he is keen to establish collaborations with CITER and others.
The Award will be presented at the forthcoming CITER Annual Scientific Meeting which is taking place between 23-24 September 2019 at the Swansea Marriott Hotel, Swansea at which Daniel will deliver a thirty minute presentation on his extensive research that has led to his well-deserved award.
