School of Pharmacy Excel in Enriching Student Lives Awards

Cardiff School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences’ Dr. Claire Simons has won Personal Tutor of the Year at the Enriching Student Lives Awards.

The awards, now in their 9th year, are run by the Students’ Union and recognise those staff members whose dedication and excellence contribute significantly to the student experience.

Nominations come from the students themselves, making the awards particularly rewarding. The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences was honoured with an extraordinary twelve nominations, underlining how well-appreciated our staff are by the students.

Of the nominations, Claire Simons and Wyn Davies were shortlisted in their categories of Personal Tutor of the Year and Most Uplifting and Welsh Education Champion, respectively, with Claire going on to win in her category. The judging criteria for this included an “open door” policy, the willingness to take time of the day beyond the hours of 9-5, and doing something above and beyond their call of duty.

All nominations were judged by a committee and the winners were announced in an award’s ceremony that took place in the Great Hall on May 3rd.

Head of School Mark Gumbleton said, “We greatly value student recognition of members of the School who have made a significant and positive impact on the student experience.” And on Claire Simons, he remarked, “In the context of the entire University this is a very meaningful and esteemed tribute to Claire and we are justly proud.”
