Students make employability awards shortlist

Three undergraduates from Cardiff Business School have been shortlisted for National Undergraduate Employability (NUE) Awards.

Elizabeth Pescud, a final year undergraduate studying BSc Business Management, is one of only five students nationally in the running for the Best Placement Student Award which recognises the amazing contribution that students make to businesses across the UK.

The award celebrates the genuine, measurable impact a student has made to their host business whilst on placement.

Elizabeth spent her placement year with Deloitte as a Technology Consultant in Zurich and has secured a graduate position with the company pending successful completion of her final year in Cardiff Business School.

Alex Stickler, a BSc Economics and Finance student, and Ryan Hale, who is final year BSc Business Management undergraduate, are also shortlisted and will compete against one another for the coveted Best Intern Award.

The Best Intern category celebrates students who have exceeded expectations while on placement, making an impact on their department or the business itself.

Alex, who was named Target Jobs’ One to Watch Undergraduate of the Year, completed his internship with First Names Group in Jersey. He worked across the organisation’s accounting, administration, compliance and fund management portfolios and added significant value to the company.

Ryan completed his internship with Arriva Trains Wales, working as Project Support on the UEFA Champions League Final, the firm's largest event. He selected to work on the technical allocation of parking and transport provision for over 600 employees. Ryan's work resulted in the project plan being delivered successfully.

Alex Hicks, Placement Manager at Cardiff Business School, said: “I am delighted that NUE has once again recognised our talented students and the contributions they have made to their host organisations...”

The awards, which are split into Employer, University and Student shortlists, are now in their eighth year and designed to benchmark ‘success across all organisations, universities and students in the undergraduate employability market’.

The NUE Awards will take place in London on Friday 23 February 2018.
