International Seagrass Biology Workshop 2016

We are delighted to announce that Project Seagrass and the Seagrass Ecosystem Research Group (SERG), will be hosting the International Seagrass Biology Workshop (ISBW) an official activity of the World Seagrass Association Inc., at Nant Gwytheyrn, Gwynedd, Wales, in October 2016.

Project Seagrass is a non-profit organization devoted to advancing the conservation of seagrass ecosystems through education, influence, research and action. This organization is run by the Seagrass Ecosystem Research Group (SERG) which is a joint inter-disciplinary marine research collaboration between marine biologists in the school of Biosciences at Swansea University, and interdisciplinary marine scientists including our Research Fellow, Dr Leanne Cullen-Unsworth and Richard Lilly, PhD Research Student at Sustainable Places, Cardiff University.  

The International Seagrass Biology Workshop (ISBW) series is a meeting of research scientists, students and coastal environment managers focusing on global seagrass issues, improving seagrass knowledge, developing networks and advocating for seagrass protection/conservation. The ISBW will bring together more than 100 scientists working on various aspects of seagrass ecosystems from across the world, to discuss their latest findings. This conference is held every 2 years, swapping between developed and developing nation locations. The 2014 meeting (ISBW12) was held in Sanya, Hainan Province, China in November 2014.

The research work of Seagrass Ecosystem Research Group is globally focussed and includes biology, ecology and social based projects and surveys running in Wales, Europe, Australia, the Caribbean and Indonesia and involves collaborators at a number of internationally leading institutes. Specific sites of interest are Porthdinllaen in North Wales which is near where the ISBW will be held in 2016. This will give the opportunity for those who attend to undertake some research through a fieldtrip at the conference.
