HCT372 - Advanced Assessment of Child and Young Person.

When undertaking this module, you will be able to develop your advanced clinical assessment and diagnostic skills based on your individual scope and field practice when working with children and / or young people (CYP). The module has been designed to build on the healthcare professionals’ current knowledge, understanding and skills and take these to an advanced level within their specific area of clinical practice.

Undertaking this module will provide you with the opportunity to enhance the service provided to CYP within your practice area and expand your own knowledge. The module will offer you the opportunity to study a wide range of topics including; infant, child and adolescent development, anatomy and physiology, age appropriate examination / consultation skills, systematic history taking, diagnosis of sick CYPs and safeguarding.

The aim is to develop you through theory and practice to be able to identify, assess and manage CYP conditions relevant to your specific area of clinical practice. The skills and knowledge gained within this module will support you in identifying conditions in order to refer patients appropriately through collaboration with relevant colleagues.

The module will be delivered over 12 weeks in one semester. The module will involve a blended learning approach combining 8 taught days supported by online resources and content e.g. webinars, e-tutorials and self-directed learning. You will be encouraged to critically reflect on clinical practice facilitated by a Designated Supervising Mentor (DSM)

A first degree or diploma giving a licence to practice in the relevant health profession and two years post registration experience.
