Our Year Abroad programme is an exciting opportunity to study Computer Science in a different environment and culture.

China

The programme will take you to one of our approved universities across the world to study Computer Science, or similar, between taught years two and three.

Spending one year studying abroad will give you the opportunity to gain experience of your subject in a new environment and culture, and to learn how to live independently outside the UK. You will also have the chance to study modules that are not available in the Cardiff School of Computer Science and Informatics.

You will be able to choose from a subset of the universities with which Cardiff University has a student exchange agreement. These include:

  • University of Adelaide (Australia)
  • Iowa State University, Northeastern University, University of Wyoming (USA)
  • Carleton University (Canada)
  • Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (China)
  • Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (South Korea)
  • Nanyang Technological University (Singapore)

The Global Opportunities Centre has more information about these universities. We review our list of approved universities and it may be subject to change.

During your year abroad you will be taught and assessed according to your host university. These modules will contribute 10% to your final degree classification.

We will help, advise and support you in planning every element of your year abroad, including helping you to select modules that will complement what you learn at Cardiff.

You will return to Cardiff University following your Year Abroad at the start of the autumn semester for your final year of studies. Your individual project in this final year will give you the chance to demonstrate and build upon what you have learnt during your time away.
