The Welsh plan to transform patient care with genomics

The highly successful Science in Health Public Lecture Series is now in its sixteenth year and attracts a diverse audience of interested individuals including the public, secondary school pupils and professionals

The lectures are FREE to attend, no booking is required.There will be opportunities for sixth-form students to meet with some of the speakers before the lectures.

In this lecture we will have a panel of speakers from Genomics Partnership Wales and The 100,000 Genomes Project in Wales.

The Genomics for Precision Medicine Strategy was launched by the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Services, Vaughan Gething in July 2017, and sets out the Welsh Government’s ambitious plan “to create a sustainable, internationally-competitive environment for genetics and genomics to improve health and healthcare provision for the people of Wales”.

Genomics Partnership Wales (GPW) has since been established to ensure a united approach to Genomics in Wales and represents the coming together of a number of organisations across several disciplines, to deliver a programme of work that will enable the ambition and commitment laid out in the Genomics Strategy to be realised.

This public talk will highlight the recent progress being made across our Public Health and NHS services, as well as Wales’ contribution to the landmark 100K Genomes initiative. Patient and Public Involvement is also a priority for Genomics Partnership Wales – details of how to become involved will be shared at this meeting.

This talk has been coordinated by Wales Gene Park in collaboration with Genomics Partnership Wales.

There will be a question and answer session at the end of the lecture - questions are welcomed in both English and Welsh.
