Under the researcher links scheme supported by the Newton Fund, the British Council and FAPESP, we will be holding a workshop on the above theme at the University of Campinas (Unicamp), Brazil, from 15-19 July 2019.
The workshop is being coordinated by Dr Antonio Ioris (School of Geography and Planning, Cardiff University, UK) and Dr Lindon Matias (Institute of Geosciences, Unicamp, São Paulo, Brazil), and will have contributions from other leading British and Brazilian researchers.
We are now inviting early career researchers (ECRs) from the UK and São Paulo (Brazil) to apply to attend this workshop. Coordinators will select 34 ECRs (17 from the UK and 17 from the State of São Paulo).
The topics to be covered in this workshop are related:
- theoretical debates around development, sustainable development and environmental governance
- impacts and reactions to urban and rural impacts of development
- connections across scales, regions and countries
- methodological, ethical and political issues associated with the nexus between environment and development
- opportunities for North-South collaborative work.
The coordinators welcome applications from the potential participants who work in these topics. The major goal of this workshop is to establish a sustainable group of researchers who will develop strong link between a range of actors in academia, government, commerce and the NGO community.
The workshop will focus on developing a network of researchers to promote future collaboration, in both researchers and education, between ECRs in the UK and Brazil. The network will also have an important role in promoting engagement with the wider community. The workshop will also examine opportunities for career development amongst participating ECRs.
The workshop will be held in English. Participants will be expected to deliver a short presentation on their research area and its relationship to the workshop theme, and to take part in group-discussions over each of the four days of the workshop.
Location
The workshop will be held at the Institute of Geosciences, Unicamp, Campinas, Brazil.
Costs
The costs of travel, accommodation and meals during the workshop will be covered.
Eligibility
To be eligible for consideration ECRs, you must have obtained a PhD within the 10 years prior to the workshop though, in exceptional cases, the participation of senior doctoral students may be authorised. Participants must also have links to UK or São Paulo higher education or research institutions.
Although most participants are likely to come from within the academic sector, we would also encourage applications from ECRs working in industrial RandDs. Applications are invited from researchers in all relevant disciplines.
Applying
For the UK applicants, please request the application form and send it back to the UK coordinator (Dr Ioris).
Deadline for submission of the completed form is 15 March 2019.
