International Postgraduate Taught Students

Mae'r cynnwys hwn ar gael yn Saesneg yn unig.

Our Masters courses are ideal for retraining or as a route towards a future PhD.

Our postgraduate taught Masters degrees are very popular with international students. All taught programmes are research-led, including a significant research project under the guidance of an academic supervisor. Many students use these schemes as an opportunity to re-train in a different field of study to their original degree, or to specialize from a general chemistry degree. They also provide excellent preparation for PhD programmes in related disciplines. We offer three  postgraduate taught Masters degrees:

Catalysis (MSc)

Catalysis has an important role in many processes, from living systems to large scale chemical manufacture. It is also central to addressing many of the grand challenges facing society, such as solving the energy crisis and protecting our environment. This course will provide training on heterogeneous, homogeneous and enzymatic catalysis theory, application, preparation and analysis.

Biological Chemistry (MSc)

The chemistry of biological processes is the basis of all life on the planet. By studying aspects such as biosynthesis, retrosynthetic analysis, molecular biology and the principles of drug development, this course will develop an understanding of the pathways that are core to chemical biology.

Medicinal Chemistry (Msc)

Medicinal chemistry is the chemistry that is  used in the discovery of new medicines. Although the techniques of medicinal chemistry are widely employed in the drug discovery industry, many of the same  principals can be applied to other problems in the chemical and life sciences.  By understanding the mechanisms of drugs action, new molecules can be developed  with improved pharmacological properties and reduced side effects.

These courses run either before or alongside your academic studies. More information can be found on the relevant English Language course webpages.

The School of Chemistry accepts the English for University Study and Pre-sessional Programmes as entry qualifications, and does not require a separate IELTS test prior to entry.

I wanted to go to one of the best universities in UK for my MSc and study the course that would bring me closer to the career in pharmaceutical research and development that I have been looking forward to since my childhood. The MSc in Chemical Biology at Cardiff University was the right choice as it has modules tailored towards my interests, which also enhances my Chemistry knowledge. It is not only the good reputation of the School of Chemistry but also the helpfulness and friendliness of the reputed staff members that have encouraged me to choose Cardiff University!

Reem Almutairi (Kuwait) (MSc Chemical Biology, 2014-15)

I have studied for an MSc in Chemical Biology in Cardiff University this year and I am so delighted to write about my experience here. Cardiff is really the best place to study in. That is because all the academic staff are seeking to help the students when they need support. Also, Cardiff University is a quiet place to study and the people here are friendly and helpful. I recommend Cardiff University for any one searching for a good education and comfortable place.
