Creating a child-friendly community in Grangetown

Giving young people a voice in creating a pandemic recovery plan for their community.

The response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including social distancing measures, school closures and prohibition on outdoor activities, has further highlighted social and spatial inequalities. This is particularly the case for children and young people living in overcrowded households or high-rise flats, with no access to gardens and limited access to the internet.

Evidence suggests that the pandemic will have long-term detrimental effects on the health and wellbeing of children and young people.

This project aims to improve the wellbeing of children and young people in Grangetown, Cardiff, one of the communities hit hardest by the pandemic. Through a series of workshops and engagement activities, this project gives children and young people a voice in the creation of a greener and fairer recovery plan for their community

The recovery plan for a child-friendly Grangetown includes recommendations that can be applied in other communities in Cardiff, and throughout the UK.
