Physics Mentoring Project Post 16
The Physics Mentoring Programme trains undergraduate and postgraduate students to mentor and inspire future physicists across Wales.
The collaboration between eight universities (Aberystwyth, Bangor, Cardiff Metropolitan, Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham, the University of South Wales, and the Open University) builds on the established success of the award-winning Modern Foreign Language Mentoring scheme.
Our mentors work with secondary and A-level students across Wales to promote physics qualifications whilst increasing confidence and self-awareness.
This Physics Mentoring project provided alternative routes into physics and increased impact for diverse and underrepresented groups.
In 2023, a successful pilot event engaged STEM apprentice employers to deliver interactive sessions with Cardiff West Secondary School.
The SWCEP funding enabled the delivery of similar pilot events in two local colleges, Bridgend College and Coleg y Cymoedd, targeting secondary school pupils making decisions about their future.
