More green prescribing projects
Rewilding Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr
In partnership with the Anuerin Bevan Health Board, we are supporting a rewilding project in the grounds of Ystrad Mynach Fawr hospital. We are working with NHS staff to create green spaces where staff, visitors and the local community can connect with nature in ways that support their mental health.
While our initial plans for the site were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been able to relaunch the project with funding from the University’s Innovation For All funding stream. This will allow us to reengage with NHS staff and the community to create an environment which benefits all.
This site is 5 miles away from our Cynon Valley project, creating opportunities for connection across the two sites which will benefit the region as a whole.
STEM enrichment and green social prescribing in Llanelli
At the invitation of Carmarthen Council, we are working with Ysgol PenRhos in Llanelli which serves a deprived area of the city. The aim of the project is both to inspire students to engage with STEM subjects, and to create a nature space in which children and the community can connect with nature.
To provide STEM enrichment we are supporting teachers to deliver our Pharmabees programme to Year 5 students. We are growing pollinator-friendly plants in the school grounds to give students opportunities to connect with their natural environment.
We are keen to share the benefits of this approach with other schools in the Llanelli region, and we are currently exploring funding options.
