Grangetown Career and Role Models week
Raising aspirations by connecting local people with mentors, experts and opportunities.
The idea
Offering the people of Grangetown careers advice, guidance on how to get to university, how to apply for jobs and coaching for interviews.
Progress
The Career and Role Model week is now in its seventh year and is one of the most popular events in the Community Gateway calendar offering both career and course advice to Grangetown residents of all ages.
Events are held over the course of a week giving residents a chance to meet academic and professional staff from Cardiff University and receive advice, support and guidance with applications.
During the week, residents are also given the opportunity to sign up to attend the University undergraduate open day and are provided with transport from Grangetown to attend.
Community Gateway has sought to encourage community members to take advantage of the diverse range of job opportunities available at Cardiff University by working closely with staff from the Human Resources and Careers and Employability teams who offer CV checks and careers advice. Information on getting involved with the Careers and Employability services, along with the Enterprise and Start-up team will be available throughout the week.
Budding entrepreneurs and business owners are also catered for during the week with information sessions on how to set up a business and opportunities to meet with the procurement team to find out how businesses can work with the university.
The Career and Role Models week has been incredibly successful with a number of local Grangetown residents gaining places on Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses at university – success that Community Gateway only hopes to build on in the future.
