What do Halloween, Samhain and The Day of the Dead have in Common? Are they ancient traditions or new expressions of identity for the cultures that celebrate them?
This talk will look at possible origins and new developments in these three autumn festivals.
Dr Juliette Wood is an internationally renowned folklorist and medieval specialist who teaches for Cardiff University in Continuing and Professional Education, the School of History, Archaeology and Religion, and the School of Welsh. She is the author of numerous books, including most recently Fantastic Creatures in Mythology and Folklore (Bloomsbury, 2018), and she is a regular panel member on BBC Radio 4’s In Our Time series.
