Speaker: Tiago Alves, School of Earth and Environmental Sciences.
The world’s seas are, at present, threatened by various types of pollutants, which are caused mostly by human activities on land and from disasters occurring both onshore and offshore (oil spills, plastics, chemicals, etc.). This talk will focus on the Eastern Mediterranean, one of the regions most impacted by pollution in the world. It will demonstrate that only the environmental awareness of the impact and costs of marine pollution can change people’s attitudes.
The aim of the new Erasmus+ Sea4All project is to significantly contribute to the awareness and consciousness of school children and educational institutions, in a playful manner, using innovative e-games and educational tools.
This free talk is part of the Volvo Ocean Race’s Public Education Programme.
