Poor planning decisions, a huge rise in population, congestion and pollution – can Cardiff remain a liveable city?

Currently, one of Cardiff’s key attributes is the fact that it is a liveable city, with wonderful green spaces, a compact centre and a sense of community thanks to its relatively small population.

But is all that set to change? An increase in population of around 90,000 people, and the associated traffic, plus the proliferation of faceless tower blocks, and soulless new developments could change Cardiff forever.

Sir Simon Jenkins, former chairman of the National Trust, and Guardian columnist, is an outspoken critic of poor planning decisions throughout the UK that despoil our major and provincial cities and suburbanise rural areas.

Simon Jenkins, and other speakers, will address Cardiff Civic Society and guests on the impact of bad planning and indiscriminate development on the nation’s quality of life.
