This powerful documentary feature film investigates the brutal murder of six football fans – shot in the back while watching a World Cup match in a village pub in Northern Ireland in 1994. It unveils a litany of corruption involving police, paramilitary gangs and the army, that followed the massacre. Nearly 25 years on nobody has been charged with the killings. But journalists have been arrested for investigating it - arrested for doing their jobs.
Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney called this the film that could land him in jail.
Journalists Trevor Birney and Barry McCaffrey have already been arrested in relation to information gathering for the film. About 100 police carried out dramatic early morning raids on their homes and offices last August, seizing their phones and laptops as well as the phones and personal property of Trevor’s wife - and even his young daughter’s pink phone.
Alex Gibney tweeted that they had been arrested for "good, hard-hitting journalism".
NUJ Cardiff, in collaboration with JOMEC, brings you the documentary the BBC didn’t want you to see. Plus a chance to discuss the film and its aftermath with Trevor Birney, who"s flying in from Belfast for this special screening.
