Dr Marion Loeffler is Lecturer in Welsh History at Cardiff University, in the School of History, Archaeology and Religion.
Dr Loeffler's research focuses on Wales in its British, European and Empire contexts, and on the interplay of politics, religion and culture between c.1715 and the later nineteenth century. Her paper focuses on the impact of judgements pronounced in the wake of the Merthyr riots of 1800, by Judge George Hardinge (1743-1816), whose actions ‘may inadvertently have created the first working-class martyrs of nineteenth-century Wales’.
