Join Alexia Course, Chief Commercial Officer at Transport for Wales (TfW), Owain Taylor-Shaw, Head of Business Development at TfW ffeibr, and Professor Max Munday, Director of the Welsh Economy Research Unit at Cardiff Business School, as they explore how investment in public services can consider commercial opportunities to help ensure long-term financial sustainability and to also deliver societal impact.
This dynamic discussion will delve into TfWs approach to generating new income streams through its existing public sector assets - reducing its reliance on government subsidy while reinvesting generated revenue into customer experience and operational improvements. A key case study we’ll touch on during this session is ffeibr, one of TfWs subsidiary companies. ffeibr was created with an innovative initiative at its core, that of repurposing the excess fibre optic capacity along TfWs Metro. This not only boosts digital connectivity across the region but also attracts inward investment from data centers and AI-driven businesses, unlocking significant socio-economic benefits for Wales.
Discover how innovation, creativity, and strategic asset management can reshape the future of public sector enterprises.
