What is it for words and sentences to have meaning? Where does meaning come from? How is it conveyed? And what do the answers to these questions tell us about the moral and practical problems raised by our uses of language in everyday life?

Meaning: A Very Short Introduction, recently published by Oxford University Press, is a detailed survey of the main answers to these questions currently debated by linguists and philosophers. It is written in a style accessible to all readers.

Drinks and snacks will be available to buy. There will be a couple of short speeches.
