Both Welsh and Ukrainian cultures have rich literary and poetic traditions that remain largely undiscovered by the wider world. Despite their geographical distance, these cultures shared significant commonalities. This Welsh-Ukraine poetry evening, organised with the help of Cardiff University, the Ukrainian diaspora and the Welsh Refugee Council, aims to explore these cultural parallels and examine the connections between modern poetry in both languages.

The evening will feature Welsh and Ukrainian poets:

  • Elen Ifan
  • Llion Pryderi Roberts
  • Steffan Phillips
  • Olesya Miftakhova
  • Oksana Zabuzhko
  • Olesya Lyashchenko
  • Lietta and Olesya Mamchych

In addition to the poets, contributors include renowned Ukrainian journalist and Shevchenko National Prize winner Vitaliy Portnikov, Welsh-language choir ‘Côr y Waun Ddyfal’, and Ukrainian folk singers. There will also be an exhibition of Ukrainian art and a selection of traditional Welsh and Ukrainian pastries.

Doors will open from 5.30pm, with the event starting at 6.30pm.
