Armistice Day falls on Monday 11 November 2024 and staff, students and members of the public are invited to attend the University’s Act of Remembrance Service and observe the Two Minute Silence. Those who wish to attend are asked to assemble in the John Viriamu Jones (VJ) Gallery, Main Building at 10:50am to allow proceedings to begin on time. All are welcome, please register to attend as places are limited.
The Service will be led by President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Wendy Larner, Co-ordinating Chaplain, Rev Delyth Liddell & the University Multi-faith chaplaincy.
Please note that access to the VJ Gallery from the horseshoe drive entrance of Main Building will be closed from 10.30am - 12:00pm and access from the Park Place entrance will only be permitted for those attending the Act of Remembrance during this time. Staff and students will be asked to present their university ID cards. There will be no access to the first-floor gallery from the VJ Gallery for the duration of the Service and access to the Science Library will be restricted.
Access through Main Building via the School of Chemistry and School of Earth and Environmental Science entrances will be permitted by university ID card during this time.
Please do not bring large bags into the VJ Gallery. If smaller bags are brought, it is a condition of entry that attendees allow their bags to be checked for security purposes.
Staff and students using Main Building between 10:50am - 11:20am on 11 November, are kindly asked to keep noise to a minimum.
