Dr Elaine Dunlop, School of Medicine will be giving the first talk of the series, in conjunction with the Wales Gene Park.
Some medical conditions are considered ‘rare’, and can be largely overlooked by the medical and scientific professions. However, collectively 1 in 17 people will be affected by a rare disease at some point in their life. For many of these rare diseases, we do not fully understand the cellular faults that lead to disease. This talk will focus on why it is important to study rare diseases and the implications that findings from rare disease research may have for the wider population.
