Berengaria, wife of Richard I, the Lionheart

For our 2024 Eileen Younghusband Memorial Lecture, we are excited to welcome Dr Gabrielle Storey to speak on the theme: ‘Berengaria of Navarre: The Lionheart’s Queen in History and Myth’.

Drawing on her brilliant new biography of a frequently forgotten Queen of England, Dr Gabrielle Storey explores the history and myth surrounding Berengaria, wife of Richard I, the Lionheart (king of England 1189-99). She follows Berengaria’s journey from Spain to Sicily, Cyprus, the Holy Land and France, and her roles as infanta, queen, dowager and lord, and the way in which Berengaria has been forgotten and remembered in later centuries.

We will send out a Zoom link for the event to all those who have registered. This will arrive on the day when the talk is being held. Please note that the Zoom link will arrive via email from Dr Paul Webster. If you have not received a Zoom link by midday on 23 October, email Paul (websterp@cardiff.ac.uk) and he will send it on.
