An examination of the illustrations in Charlotte Guest’s translation of The Mabinogion, and in particular the relationship between illustration and text, that is between word and image. I hope to throw some light on the working relationship between Guest and her main illustrator, Samuel Williams, within the context of Victorian book production, highlighting the choices that she made.
