Making History in Cardiff is a two day celebration that brings together researchers from our School of History, Archaeology and Religion, community partners and artists, alongside a dedicated team of local volunteers, to explore exciting histories of the area, build skills and create opportunities for the vibrant communities of Caerau and Ely.

On day 1 of Making History in Cardiff on 15 November, we welcome members of the Caerau and Ely community to the Caer Heritage Centre to explore the incredible community-led discoveries of the areas past from the stone-age to the modern era. Experience remarkable Bronze Age artefacts from the first known house in the city, step back in time to explore the Iron-Age and get hands-on with heritage themed ancient crafts. No booking is required for Making History in Cardiff: Community Day – just drop in.

The final day of Making History in Cardiff: Discovery Day will take place on Saturday 16 November from 11am-3pm at Cardiff West Community High School, next to the site of a Roman villa and Cardiff’s oldest known house dating to the Bronze Age.

All are welcome to this jam packed day of family fun and interactive activities that explore Cardiff’s past: sample Roman foods, walk through Bronze-Age landscapes, compose medieval sagas, discover tales of witches and witch hunts, learn about oral history and co-create heritage themed art. This event is part of Being Human Festival, the UK’s national festival of humanities taking place 7-16 November 2024.
