Evidence shows that democratic elections draw targeted disinformation and foreign state information operations. With the rapid advancement of AI technologies, the scale and intensity of information threats to democracy are accelerating. These threats pose serious risks to global security and social, political and economic order.

This year, with more than half the world’s population able to participate in democratic elections, the work of Cardiff University’s Security Crime and Intelligence Innovation Institute is more important than ever. Hear from Professor Martin Innes, Co-Director of the Institute about their work to uncover foreign state interference in elections and to tackle the impact of manipulated information on our societies.
