On Tuesday, May 14, Cardiff School of Earth & Environmental Sciences is hosting our final public lecture of 2024. Dr Angela Middleton of Historic England joins us to explore Excavation Finished! Now What? The role of investigative conservation in archaeology.
An excavation can result in the recovery of large finds, which, when dealt with correctly, can contribute to the understanding and interpretation of a site. This talk will advocate for the integration of conservation into the archaeological processes, from planning, through fieldwork and analysis, all the way to publication.
Dr Middleton, Senior Archaeological Conservator at Historic England, will go through discoveries made at the conservator’s bench, all the way from terrestrial to maritime sites.
