Pancreatic cancer is the 10th most common cancer in the UK with one of the worst prognoses of any malignancy -10-year survival is just 5%. This is because the symptoms are difficult to define until the disease has progressed to late stages, when it becomes largely untreatable.
Early detection is vital to improving survival and preventing escalating numbers of deaths in the future. Understanding the biology of early disease is a critical first step to developing new early detection tools.
Hear from Dr Catherine Hogan, Lecturer and Joshua D’Ambrogio (Biosciences 2021-) PhD student from the European Cancer Stem Cell Research Institute (ECSCRI) who are investigating how high fat diets and obesity (known risk factors) cause early pancreatic cancer which may uncover targets for future therapies.
