We are facing a climate emergency. Reaching Net Zero is one of the world’s answers to stopping/slowing climate change. In March 2021 Senedd Cymru approved a net zero target for 2050. Net Zero means balancing unavoidable greenhouse gas emissions with the amount of gases we're removing from the atmosphere.

Everyone in Wales will play their part in driving emissions down, with the need for government, communities and businesses to work together in response to the climate change emergency. Wales, along with other nations have decided that Net Zero is the best strategy to protect the World from rising global temperatures.

The Welsh Government Pledge Campaign calls for organisations of all sectors and industries to think about the changes they can each make, to build on the collective actions set out in the Net Zero Wales Strategy. We need to reduce emissions to the lowest amount through energy efficiency, then use offsetting to balance the remaining hard to remove emissions. These changes could include committing to less business travel, minimising food waste or making buildings more energy efficient.

Join us on the 7th February for a breakfast briefing and networking event, where you can hear directly from policy makers, academics and industry about the support and opportunities available to help organisations implement greener measures collaboratively to achieve the Net Zero targets.

We are delighted to be joined by guest speakers from the following organisations:

Media Cymru is a collaboration to turn the Cardiff Capital Region (CCR) into a global home for media innovation with a focus on green and fair economic growth. We believe in Wales’ potential to further shape the media industry through greater funding, training and opportunities for innovation. Our Green pillar of activity provides the sector in Wales with research and development funding and training so they can achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Media Cymru is also a partner in BAFTA albert’s Screen New Deal: Wales Transformation Plan which has set out plans for addressing energy use and waste in the film and high end TV industry.

The Cardiff University Net Zero Innovation Institute is delivering the vital innovation, collaboration, and technological advances needed to achieve net zero. Bringing an interdisciplinary approach to meet the challenge of net zero, the institute’s focus is on real-world, applicable solutions that are driven by collaboration and partnership with leading public, private, and third sector partners.

RemakerSpace - Located at Cardiff University’s Social Science Research Park, the RemakerSpace is a £1m pound facility hosting £600,000 of equipment that has been funded by the Welsh Government’s Circular Economy Fund and considerable contribution by Cardiff Business School. The Centre was created to support and promote re-manufacturing and repair to help Wales become a world leader in the transition to a circular economy and works with community groups, businesses, and education providers to drive the circular economy in Wales and beyond. Tours will be provided before the event programme starts.
