MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scanners are powerful medical diagnostic tools for illnesses including cancer, neurological illness and heart disease, but they are expensive and are not readily available in low-income and rural communities.
Professor Derek Jones MBE, Director, and Joshua Ametepe, PhD student, from Cardiff University’s Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC) are working to overcome this barrier.
Their research is harnessing the power of machine learning and open-source technology which is effective and economical: bringing MRI technology to the patients who need it.
