Equity finance as a driver for economic development in Wales:
How can equity investment help drive recovery from the pandemic?
Despite the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic, 2020 was a record year for investment in Wales according to new research from Beauhurst, with £129 million equity invested into Welsh start-ups and scale-ups and nearly 20,000 new companies started but what is the picture looking like for 2022 and beyond? What are the key challenges and opportunities for equity investment and what role can it play in driving recovery from the pandemic in Wales?
Our next Breakfast Briefing will take place on Tuesday June 14th at 8.30am, when we’ll be joined by Mike Owen, Investment Director and Sian Price, Research and Partnership Manager, both from the Development Bank of Wales, to discuss the current landscape for Welsh SMEs and the role of equity investment in supporting Welsh businesses.
Mike and Sian will provide an overview of the Development Bank, its services and how it supports Welsh businesses. They will also discuss the latest data and analysis from Economic Intelligence Wales, a research collaboration between the Development Bank of Wales, Cardiff Business School and the Office for National Statistics, looking at the current landscape for Welsh SMEs, key business issues and the supply and demand of finance, along with initial survey evidence on the impact of Covid-19 financial interventions on Welsh businesses.
Finally, they will take a more detailed look at the equity investment market in Wales - the size and characteristics of the market, the key players, as well as the geography and sectors securing equity investment by sharing some successful case studies.
