WDNA

In light of the rapid technological transformation and the increasingly widespread reach of data science and artificial intelligence (AI) in society, it is vital we work as a collective across private, public and third sector, as well as academia, to take coordinated actions to harness data and intelligence. The Wales Data Nation Accelerator’s (WDNA) mission is to help Wales become more resilient and prosperous, promoting economic and social transformation through support for innovation in data and AI, based on raising skills, collaborations and critical mass, whilst positioning Wales for long term success through greater insight, foresight and intelligence.

In January 2022, the WDNA pilot supported 22 ‘super sprint’ projects matching data scientists and AI researchers with partners in industry, public and third sector organisations to harness the potential from data. The 1-2 month short projects spanned a variety of sectors and tackled challenges ranging from carbon reduction through optimising energy usage, to better patient benefit through AI guided diagnosis and prognosis of post operative SEPSIS. The UK can lead the way in advances in AI and Data Science.

This showcase event will highlight outcomes of the WDNA pilot projects, share learnings and best practice and provide an overview for the ambitions of Wales going forward. Who should attend

Anyone with an interest in the digital transformation agenda and would like to learn more of the potential for AI and data science to disrupt and shape Wales future. Whether you’re a digital native, or keen to better understand the opportunities, this event will share knowledge on the current landscape, provide insight into best practice, and outline our future ambition for the WDNA and beyond.

Further details, including a full agenda and speakers, will be shared with the registered attendees in the next few weeks.

The Data Nation Accelerator is a pan-Wales initiative that is being developed to accelerate new insight, foresight and intelligence from diverse data assets for societal, health and economic impact. Through cocreation across business and other parties, the Wales Data Nation Accelerator seeks to fuel innovation in data and AI for new solutions, products and applications in key industrial clusters and public services, while also enriching the talent pool of skills in Wales for data science and AI. Being driven by the Universities of Cardiff, Swansea, Aberystwyth and Bangor, the programme is codeveloped with Welsh Government, industry, public and third sector.
