Prostate cancer – better diagnosis through research

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, with over 47,000 men diagnosed in the UK every year. The pathway to diagnosis, however, is complex and ultimately relies on an invasive surgical biopsy which carries certain risks.

Join researchers Professor Aled Clayton (BSc 1993, PhD 1997) and Dr Kieran Foley (MBBCh 2008, PhD 2018) to hear how Cardiff University research is pushing forward our understanding, and improving diagnosis of this disease.

Hear about Professor Clayton’s work to develop a blood test that will help predict the severity of an individual’s prostate cancer diagnosis, without the need for biopsies. Dr Foley will explain how he is using one of the most powerful MRI scanners in Europe, located at the University, to learn more about the tissue microstructure in prostate cancer to help improve the accuracy of diagnosis.
