Formed by their musical director Peter Leech in 2008, Cappella Fede (named after Innocenzo Fede, maestro di cappella of the London Catholic Chapel of King James II), comprises performers from some of the UK’s finest period vocal and instrumental ensembles. Specialising in both secular and sacred music from c.1650-c.1790 and working at the cutting-edge of the latest research, they have performed a wide variety of repertoire, including the first modern performances of rediscovered baroque and early classical works by composers such as Innocenzo Fede, Sebastiano Bolis, Antonio Cossandi, Miguel Ferreira, Antoine Selosse SJ, Niccolò Jommelli, and Giovanni Battista Costanzi. Concert activity has taken them to venues as far afield as Liverpool, Durham, Hereford, London and Rome. Their 2016 CD, The Cardinal King (Toccata Classics) was described by BBC Radio 3 Record Review as ‘consort singing second to none’. Highlights of recent activity include a concert at S. Giorgio in Velabro, Rome, as part of festivities for the Canonization of Cardinal St John Henry Newman (2019). This Cardiff concert (their first in Wales) is a re-scheduled event from 2020, celebrating the 400th anniversary of the birth of the virtuoso Novara Ursuline nun and composer Isabella Leonarda in 1620.
Programme to include:
Isabella Leonarda: Alma redemptoris Mater, Litanie della Beata Vergine Maria
Lucrezia Vizzana: Protector noster
Maria Xaveria Peruchona: Cessate tympana
Maria Rosa Coccia: excerpts from Magnificat & Veni creator spiritus
