Consumption is an essential part of people’s lives with the potential to greatly enhance – or reduce – individual well-being and social and ecological well-being. To achieve sustainable levels of consumption while maintaining or improving well-being, it is necessary to gain a better understanding of the complexity of this relationship.
Our research explores facets of well-being and their relationship with meso- and macro-level aspects of consumption, in particular, sustainable consumption behaviours and mobility cultures. Results show that in order to gain a better understanding of the relationship between well-being and areas of consumption, and design more effective policy interventions, a nuanced conceptualisation of well-being is required.
