Language and culture are closely intertwined; teaching Chinese as a second language (TCSL) and the transmission of Chinese culture are complementary. This symposium aims to discuss topics such as Chinese culture and the arts, the comparative study of Chinese and Western culture, transmission of culture through language so as to expand the depth and breadth of Chinese language teaching and to promote communication and interaction between cultures.

Major topics to be discussed:

1) Studies on theory and practice in TCSL and the transmission of Chinese culture and the arts

2) Cultural studies in the international teaching of Chinese

3) The use of media in transmitting language and culture (Functions and methods)

4) Studies on Chinese culture and the arts

5) Comparative studies of Chinese and western culture

The Fourth International Symposium: Dialogue between Chinese Language Teaching and Culture and the Arts is hosted by Cardiff University and sponsored by the Cardiff Confucius Institute and Beijing Normal University.
