Our branch team and structure

We encourage every staff member, from academic and professional services, and students to join our Cardiff Branch.

This is especially important for those involved in Welsh-medium provision and for students who choose to study parts or all their courses in Welsh.

Three Branch meetings are held each academic year to ensure that the voice of the academic community is considered in developing the University's Welsh-medium academic plans.

Branch Committee

The branch committee comprises of the following members:

  • Chair of Cardiff Branch: Dr Siôn Jones
  • Branch Officer: Elliw Iwan
  • Vice-chairs of the Branch: Gwyneth Hayward
  • Student Representation: Cardiff Students' Union's Vice President for Welsh Language, Culture, and Community: Catrin Edith Parry.

Student ambassadors

We have student ambassadors, whether Welsh is their first or second language, to help us communicate with people about:

  • studying in Welsh
  • experiences of studying at a Welsh University
  • scholarships that are available for those wishing to study in Welsh
  • the Welsh Unions
  • Welsh-language events and socialising

The Coleg aims to support the ambassadors in developing valuable skills that will be beneficial when looking for future work opportunities.

They will also have the chance to share their experiences on our website and social media platforms.

Each year, they will have the opportunity to represent us at the Urdd and National Eisteddfod, as well as visit schools alongside a member of the Coleg Cymraeg marketing team to engage with students.
