Chemistry in the 3rd Dimension
Chemistry in the 3rd Dimension is an immersive 3D chemistry workshop delivered through our portable 3D cinema.
The workshop consists of an introduction to molecular modelling / computational chemistry and showcases the variety of research taking place within the School of Chemistry. Students then don a pair of 3D glasses to virtually 'step inside' a variety of chemical systems.
Our workshops allow students to observe:
- geometries of molecules in 3D
- the difference in structure between diamond and graphite
- simulations of the processes involved of changes of state
- a suite of biological simulations.
Workshops typically last an hour and cover some of the features of the WJEC AS level syllabus.
These workshops are most suited for Key Stage 5 students. However, we can deliver a shorter version for Key Stages 3-4 students.
