Neurodegenerative disorders
One of our major areas of research is neurodegenerative disorders, and we have world-class scientists exploring the genetic risk factors for a variety of conditions.
Neurodegenerative disorder is an umbrella term for a range of conditions primarily affecting the neurons in the human brain.
They are incurable and debilitating conditions that result in progressive degeneration or death of nerve cells, causing a loss of cognitive abilities like memory and decision-making.
Neurodegenerative disorders represent a major societal challenge as they increase in prevalence in our ageing population.
