Building
We are one of Europe’s top facilities for brain imaging.
Housing a powerful combination of neuroimaging devices, we continue to further our world-leading research which has already established the university as one of the top three in the UK for psychology, psychiatry and neuroscience.
Take a look around the building
Consolidating smart-specialisation expertise in neuroimaging, The Centre is comparable in scale with facilities in North America, enabling research done in Wales to compete with the very best in the world.
Significant asset to the university
The £44m Centre, which opened in spring 2016, forms part of the university’s Maindy Park site, which is a redevelopment housing a range of buildings promoting the university’s ambition to be a world leader in research and innovation.
We worked closely with architects IBI to design a building which can facilitate the bespoke and high-end equipment housed within it.
Sustainability is central to the design and it is hoped that the building will achieve a BREEAM excellence rating. The whole site is a significant asset to the university, the city, region and beyond.
We house one of the most powerful MRI scanners in Europe, as well as brain-stimulation equipment, sleep laboratories and drug-trial facilities.
