Helen Walbey is a dedicated leader and advocate passionate about advancing financial inclusion and gender equality on a global scale.
With over 20 years of experience across business, enterprise, policy, and academia, she plays a pivotal role in driving initiatives that empower women and marginalized communities through inclusive financial systems and policies.
She is the Global Partnerships Lead at AFI, a network of 90 financial policymakers and regulators, Helen is instrumental in promoting financial inclusion for individuals in emerging economies. She leads AFI’s global partnership and advocacy efforts while positioning the work of AFI members within the global ecosystem. Her expertise in strategic planning, project implementation, partnership development, and gender-sensitive financial policy has established her as a respected figure in global financial inclusion.
Prior to AFI, Helen was an active member of the T20 Gender Equity Taskforce, contributing to international discussions on gender equality. She also served as the inaugural Chair of the Welsh Government's Advisory Board for Women's Entrepreneurship and held the position of United Kingdom Portfolio Holder for Support, Diversity, and Home Office Policy Units at the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).
Additionally, Helen spent four years in academia, further honing her expertise in gender and economic empowerment.
