Abubakar Askira (MBA 2002)

Abubakar has fond memories of being a student at Cardiff Business School (MBA 2001).

Abubakar joined the Welsh Government in May 2022 as Director of Strategy and Engagement with Healthcare Inspectorate Wales.

He has a wealth of expertise in strategic planning, programme management and establishing effective corporate governance.

Over the course of his career, Abubakar has worked in the voluntary sector and the public sector. Prior to joining Welsh Government, he was at Social Care Wales, where he was responsible for leading corporate engagement with various stakeholders across the social care landscape in Wales. He is also qualified as an executive coach – ILM level 7 Certificate in Executive Coaching and Mentoring.

Abubakar is passionate about human rights and social justice; he has worked as a volunteer in a variety of roles. Abubakar has also held several non-executive positions including Director at Disability Wales and Trustee for a leading UK charity working to improve the lives of disabled children in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda.
