About us
We are internationally known for transformational research, strong industrial and public sector engagement, and for delivering sustainable solutions with impact.
We focus our research on many sectors of strategic importance for Wales, the UK, and the wider world, including high-value digital manufacturing, aerospace, autonomous vehicles, healthcare, and societal challenges such as sustainability and healthy ageing.
Our approach is informed by close collaboration with our stakeholders from the private and public sectors and is aligned with institutional, commercial and public expectations about the utility and fairness of close human-robot collaboration.
Our interdisciplinary centre builds on the internationally renowned research excellence of three of Cardiff University’s academic Schools:
By bringing together this collective expertise under one banner, we can maximise research expertise through synergy, driving forward innovations that tackle some of the most pressing societal challenges.
Our vision
A world that is human-centric, interactive, interconnected, data-rich, knowledge-intensive and smart.
Our mission
At the Centre for Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Human-Machine Systems (IROHMS) we will provide research leadership, bringing together a critical mass of nationally and internationally recognised researchers and state-of-the-art facilities. We will deliver an ambitious programme of transformative research at technology readiness level (TRL) 1–4. We will also engage stakeholders to define the future research agenda.
Our funders
IROHMS is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through Welsh Government and Cardiff University.
