Axiomatic Design in sustainability transitions: Designing for the economy, society and the environment.

The UK will host the 16th International Conference on Axiomatic Design at the Welsh School of Architecture in Cardiff on 25 to 27 June 2025.

Call for papers

We are delighted to invite you to submit abstracts related to design theory, methods and tools, and case studies and applications of Axiomatic Design to the United Nations Sustainable Development goals (UN SDGs).

Background

Since 2000, the ICAD series has been the traditional meeting point for the worldwide Axiomatic Design Community, including the Axiomatic Design Research Foundation (ADRF) and the International Association for Axiomatic Design (IAAD). Since its first edition, ICAD conferences have been held in Cambridge and Worcester (MA-USA), Seoul and Daejeon (Korea), Lisbon (Portugal), Florence (Italy), Xi’an (China), Iasi (Romania), Reykjavik (Iceland), Sydney (Australia), Lisbon (Portugal), and Eindhoven (the Netherlands).

Axiomatic Design (AD) is a powerful design methodology developed by Professor Nam P. Suh that can be applied to the design of products, processes, and systems. AD is a Systems Design Method to systematically analyse and translate stakeholders needs into functional requirements, design parameters and process variables and support decision making while recording process information. Its structure provides a robust basis to support design innovation towards achieving the objectives set in the United Nations Agenda for sustainable development 2015-2030.
