Voice of Humanities

Thursday 20 March 2014

A Conference and Poster Competition for Postgraduate Researchers at Cardiff University and Neighbouring Institutions

CALL FOR DELEGATES

Postgraduate students from Cardiff University and the neighbouring institutions are invited to attend this exciting interdisciplinary humanities conference. It will be held on Thursday 20 March at Cardiff University Haydn Ellis building. The aim is to provide Humanities-based MPhil and PhD students with an opportunity to discuss and present their research in a friendly, yet intellectually stimulating environment. Current postgraduate students will present their research on a wide range of topics such as cultural influences and identity, government policies, language learning, gender studies, and medieval literature.

The conference will open with a stimulating paper on Arthurian literature by our keynote speaker, Dr Juliette Wood (School of Welsh). Dr Wood specialises in medieval folklore and Celtic tradition, the modern revivals of magic, and Celticism. She is an expert in her domain, an inspirational speaker, and has provided professional consultations for television and the radio.

The conference will run concurrent panels so that you will be able to only attend the panels whose topics you are really interested in. During the coffee and lunch breaks, you will be able to wander around, look at all the research posters, and confer with their authors. The conference will end with wine and a prize-giving ceremony.

The Voice of Humanities Conference is your chance to meet fellow student researchers and engage in inspiring debates with people who, like you, represent the future of acedemic research. So register now!

Registration is FREE and includes the following:

ABOUT THE EVENT

Now in its ninth year, Voice of Humanities is a popular interdisciplinary conference for postgraduate research students in the Humanities at Cardiff University and neighbouring institutions.

Voice of Humanities is organised by postgraduate researchers from Cardiff University in collaboration with the University’s Graduate College. It is an informal forum, which can serve as a training ground for future presentations or as a means of getting feedback on your research. There is indeed room for all stages of research. The conference will feature talk and/or poster competitions, question and answer sessions and a free lunch. Prizes will be awarded for the best presentations. This will take place during a drinks reception to crown the event.

WHO CAN ATTEND?

This conference is open to all MPhils and PhDs across the humanities at Cardiff University. The event is also open to students from neighbouring institutions.
