Information for Supervisors
Much of the information in these web pages will be useful to supervisors as well as students. For example, you will find information on the Researcher Development Framework, which outlines the current guidance for researchers on the knowledge, behaviours and attributes of successful researchers and encourages them to aspire to excellence through achieving higher levels of development. We recommend that researchers use the RDF in considering their professional development planning.
The University Graduate College Programme outlines the development opportunities available to researchers at Cardiff University – not only the formal workshops and courses, but the careers events, student-led conferences and funding opportunities.
We run regular briefing sessions for supervisors, via the University’s Staff Development Programme. These provide an overview of Cardiff’s Code of Practice and regulatory framework for research degrees as well as an introduction to support available for postgraduate researchers. There are also regular sessions on Supervising Research Students, which considers the skills of supervision, ways of handling the student/supervisor relationship effectively, and methods of helping students towards completion.
You will need to book for these sessions via Staff Development. Please note that there is no charge for the Briefing Sessions.
We recommend the Vitae site for general resources for supervisors and hope to offer Cardiff-specific resources in the near future. We welcome your suggestions as to what you would hope to find here. Please mail us at UGC@Cardiff.ac.uk
