Annual Themed Conference – Call for Conference Committee Members (deadline 7 January)

Annual Themed Conference – Humanities/Social Sciences
Call for Conference Committee Members (deadline Tuesday 7 January, 5pm)

The University Graduate College would like to invite interested postgraduate research students to join the steering committee for this conference which will be supported by administrative staff from the University Graduate College Office.

The proposed theme for 2014 is Crisis.

The two-day conference – scheduled for 23 and 24 June – encourages doctoral researchers to consider how the theme in question may come to bear on their own subjects of research. The theme has been selected with a view to encompassing research into contemporary as well as historical topics. The approach allows participation by students from across the humanities and social sciences, and provides a framework for interdisciplinary cross-fertilisation.

Students who have joined the steering  committee in the past have greatly enjoyed the experience and have viewed it as a useful addition to their CV.  Getting involved will enable you to develop transferable skills that can be applied in wide variety of future career paths.   In addition, the skills developed will be useful for organising other events during your PhD (e.g. School-based seminars, regional conferences or cross-disciplinary events under a particular theme).

Find out more here. Deadline for applications is Tuesday 7 January, 5pm.

    Good Afternoon,

I would like to consider joining the steering group for the upcoming conference. I have recently joined University Staff as a Research Associate and I am also completing a PhD on policing. I am currently from UPSI and have a policing background and crisis planning following the Olympics.

If I can help and assist, I would love to be part of the conference.

  2. Says:

    Hi Sarah,

Many thanks for your interest in this conference. I have passed your details on to my colleague Charlotte Whitehead, and she should be in touch shortly.

    Best wishes,
