Distinguished Public Lecture on Multiculturalism and Interculturalism
Distinguished Public Lecture Announcement: Professor Ted Cantle (CBE), ‘From multiculturalism to interculturalism – the new era of diversity, cohesion and globalisation’
25 April, 6:30 pm
The postgraduate-led Connecting Interculturalism Cymru (CIC) group are very pleased to confirm a special lecture to be given by Prof. Ted Cantle (CBE), distinguished author and practitioner in the fields of multiculturalism, cohesion and diversity. At 6:30 pm on 25 April he will be giving a talk to promote his new book, Interculturalism: The New Era of Cohesion and Diversity.
Professor Cantle has been responsible for many action research projects, a wide range of development programmes, and has helped to establish a number of policy frameworks for the U.K government. In August 2001, the home secretary appointed him as chair of the community cohesion review team to lead the review of the causes of the summer disturbances in a number of northern towns and cities. The report – known as the Cantle report was produced in December 2001 and made around 70 recommendations. The concept of “community cohesion” was subsequently adopted by the government and Prof. Cantle was asked to chair the panel that advised ministers on implementation.
Since then he has worked with the government on numerous occasions, published widely on these issues and is the founder of the institute of community cohesion.
