Academic and University Affairs Officer – an elected officer in the Students’ Union who supports and trains the reps contact them at AcademicOfficer@cardiff.ac.uk

Academic Council – the meeting of all the Senior Reps, chaired by the Academic and University Affairs Officer and attended by other relevant people, that runs three times a year.

Annual Review form – the form that all student Chairs of the Student-Staff Panels have to fill out at the end of the academic year.

Annual Statement – document written by the Academic and University Affairs officer reflecting any University-wide topics picked up in the Annual Reviews.

Assessment Matters – the name of the project which developed, amongst other things, the University-wide feedback policy.

Board of Studies – a committee within each School that usually has student representation on it and discusses the academic and administrative matters relating to all Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught programmes.

Chair/Student Chair – the rep who chairs the Student-Staff Panel Meeting.

Enriching Student Life Awards – annual awards organised and run by the Students’ Union to recognise the best staff and student reps through student nominations.

Operational Guide – the guide given to Schools to explain how to run the student representative system.

Pro Vice-Chancellor of Education and Students – the senior position within the University that takes responsibility for matters relating to learning and teaching, and students.

Senior Rep - the one UG and PG rep that attends Academic Council and picks up on School-wide issues.

Student Academic Rep – the name give to the students that represent their peers to their School and University.

Student Academic Rep Handbook – a guide given to reps to help them fill out their role.

Student Representation System – the name given to the system where students represent their fellow students to their Schools on matters about their student experience.

Student Rep Co-ordinator – the name of the staff member from each School that has the responsibility of co-ordinating all the reps in their School.

Student-Staff Panel – the group of representative staff and students for a specific course or School who meet up to discuss the student experience.

Student Written Submission – document written annually by the Students’ Union outlining areas key to the student body.

University Council – the highest governing body in the University structure made up of the most senior University staff, two student members and a selection of ‘lay’ members; those who are independent of the University.
